| EUROPEAN ENTERPRISE AWARDS |
2007 Competition launched Enterprise
Europe, Brussels, 5 March 2007 - Building on the success of last year's edition, the European Commission is launching the second round of the European Enterprise Awards, which recognise and reward initiatives by local and regional authorities to support entrepreneurship.
400 local authorities from more than 20 countries participated in the first round of the competition last year. Commission Vice-President Günter Verheugen, responsible for enterprise and industry policies, handed out the prizes at the December 2006 award ceremony in Brussels, rewarding six outstanding projects and two special mentions. The Y4 Committee from Central Finland won the Grand Jury Prize for bringing about a ‘cultural change by spreading entrepreneurial thinking in all layers of society’.
National competitions start this month and will select entries to the European competition by September. The 2007 award ceremony will be held in Porto, Portugal in December.
