8th International Conference on Corporate Governance London, 20th – 21st September 2007

I have pleasure in inviting you to address and support the 8th International Conference on Corporate Governance organised by the World Council for Corporate Governance and Centre For Corporate Governance on 20 - 21 September 2007 in London. The theme of the conference is 'Creating a Better World through Corporate Governance. Details are on our website www.wcgcg.net. World Council for Corporate Governance is a nonprofit, independent international network committed to improving quality of corporate governance by turning board rooms as instruments of social and economic transformation. WCFCG makes corporations aware that social and environmental good are competitive differentiators and therefore issues such as community engagement, inclusivity, transparency, sustainability and climate response can enhance their brand and asset values. Our recent conferences on social responsibility in Portugal and corporate response to climate change in Palampur (India) have demonstrated that while governments are rolling back regulation, businesses seem to be excelling government expectations in engaging with social, environmental, ethical and climate change issues. Participants at the Palampur conference felt that climate change is the business of all businesses. With green stocks occupying the hottest spots combating climate change has become both a value enhancer and an equaliser. Renewable technologies would not only reduce the dependency of the world on fossil fuel, it will have great potential in transferring power to the poor farmers thus reducing the urban rural divide. The conference will debate whether corporate governance can give the desired impetus to businesses to create a more equitable, transparent, inclusive, ethical and socially and environmentally responsible low carbon world.
